About NAPLAN

NAPLAN, or the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, is the testing set by the Australian Government to determine if Australian students are meeting the educational outcomes required for their age group.  NAPLAN testing is completed when students are in years 3, 5, 7 & 9, and compares all students across Australia.

NAPLAN is not meant to be stressful; it is meant to be a tool to discover areas that can be improved in each child’s learning.  Unfortunately, being an ‘assessment’ or test, it does become competitive, and children can’t help but be stressed around performing well academically, plus, reading and writing (literacy) is a huge component of the assessment.

Writing can be a mundane task for some and when sitting the exam, students have the tendency to feel pressured by the time restrictions. The Writing Club programs provide planning strategies that will help them follow a structured approach.

Program Outline:

  • Aligned with School curriculum
  • Focus on all elements of reading and writing:
    • Complexity of the sentence
    • Practising Exam Strategies
    • Grammar
    • Text Type
    • Structure
    • Planning
    • Vocabulary

These strategies will ensure your child is well-prepared for NAPLAN, thus providing you the reassurance as a parent.
